Nut Butters, The Perfect Power Packed Snack

The scoop on nut butters—the perfect 3:00 o’clock snack

My favorite time to snack on nut butter is all the time, but when the afternoon hits and my energy is low, I want something with enough power to hold me through the rest of my day.

Nuts are power-packed, easier to digest in butter form if you are like me and don’t chew thoroughly.


Nut butters contain a number of important nutrients, including:

  • Protein
  • Healthy fats, Omega 6 and/or Omega 3 fatty acids
  • Dietary fiber
  • Vitamins and minerals
  • Phytochemicals (which according to the American Cancer Society may help prevent cancer)

Picking which nut butter brand:

I make sure to buy organic and raw nut butters because the nuts will have not have been exposed to any harsh chemicals and when raw, still contain the enzymes necessary to digest them. I also read the ingredients label to make sure the jar contains only the raw nuts because sometimes butters are mixed with hydrogenated oils (an unhealthy trans fat) and/or sugar.

When I snack on it:

I try to stick with 2 Tablespoons of nut butter or else I’ll end up eating the whole jar. So take your celery sticks, apple slices, or just your spoon and bring some satisfaction to your 3:00 o’clock hour.
