If you are a fan of Ed you would surely have seen the beautiful soul within him. He is not just a singer who pleases people on stage, but he always try to do more for the benefit of others. Last year he filmed a documentary for comic relief. For this he had to go to Liberia and it was then that the noticed the poor condition of boys who lived at slums.
He met a boy named JD, who lived with his five mates in canoes on the beaches. There were no any adult to look after them and they were having their own lives. Once the boy relates how he and his friends were raped and beaten by older boys and how they survive by a piece of bread and water, Ed decided to take the matters to his hand.
Little boy’s ambition to become the president of the country moved the pop star as he knew well how hard it would be to reach his aim in this way. He took money from his own pocket to set these kids in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia. He also found a woman to look after them whom they called as Ma.
JD says that “I used to sleep in canoes on the beach with my friends. Now I feel much better because I stay with Ma and she takes care of us. She always comes looking for us to make sure we are ok. She really cares about me. I didn’t have that before. I am very happy to be going to school soon. I want to be president, so I have to learn and study well. When I am president, I can help all the other street children with food, shelter and school. I want to see all children in school uniforms. If I had not met Ed, I would still be sleeping in canoes o the beach.”
In the video Ed says “My natural instinct is to just put them in a car and just take them and put them in a hotel until we can get them sorted.
I don’t think we can go until that’s sorted.”
Because of Ed’s great wish to see these kids in a better place, today five kids are having a happy and a fruitful life. Ed proved that what really matters is not the money, but the happiness it creates.
